Long-Term Thinking

Long-term thinking is easy to profess and hard to practise, because almost every incentive around capital is annual. The owners who compound for decades are usually the ones who arranged their affairs so that they are never forced to act on someone else's clock.

Optionality, reserves, low fixed costs and unhurried governance are not conservative by temperament. They are what make boldness survivable. Resilience is the precondition for return, not its opposite.

This topic is about designing for time: preserving the freedom to act, the capital to act with, and the institutions to keep acting well after the founder is gone.
